**side note: this happened to Elder Espiritu's dad and brother, Joseph, when they served in the Philippines too. No one believed they were Filipino either! haha
I've seen so many amazing things happen in my life and others lives. For Elder Dumanjug and I our focus this week was Mhey (I finally figured out how to spell her name) and Clark. With their baptism coming up we've been meeting with them a lot, almost every other day. As we teach them, I can defiantly see that they're starting to understand everything.
It's really cool to see them change over the time we've known them. Mhey and Clark have been taught by previous missionaries in this area, so they know a lot already, but Mhey told us it's nice to review things again. Mhey said in the past she liked drinking coffee, but not so much now. A couple of weeks ago when we asked them to be baptized, we asked if she was willing to give up coffee and follow the standards of the Word of Wisdom. She said, "Of course if that's the way I can come closer to Christ!" I thought that was pretty cool.
During one of my personal studies this week I was reading in Alma. It was the part when Aaron was teaching king Lamoni's father. I found this scripture that related to Mhey. Part of Alma 22:18 says "O God, Aaron hath told that there is a God, and though art God, wilt thou make thyself known unto me, and I will give away all my sins to know thee".
This king was willing to give up ALL his sins to know our Heavenly Father. Mhye was willing to give up coffee to be closer to Christ. So are we all willing to give up all our sins to know our Heavenly Father, not just a couple but all of them? I really liked this experience and I'm happy it happened to me.
I've seen so many amazing things here on my mission and it's awesome!
